Oggi per noi è una grande giornata, perché il nostro fido Google è diventato finalmente maggiorenne!

E pensare che ci sembra ieri che Larry Page e Sergey Brin discutevano sul nome da affibbiarli che… puff… in men che non si dica, può già prendere la patente.

Ed ecco che fa capolino il sempre verde “come crescono”…

Ma per quanto oggi Google sia diventato sinonimo di navigazione in Rete, tanto che “googlare” si annovera tra i neologismi più utilizzati negli ultimi anni, in pochi conoscono la storia di questo rivoluzionario strumento di ricerca.

Innanzitutto cominciamo a chiarire come è nato: il tutto come sempre accade per le grandi invenzioni del nostro secolo ha avuto origine in una delle più note e importanti università americane, Stanford per la precisione. BackRub, considerato la versione 0 di Google, fu il primo progetto a cui lavorarono insieme Page e Brin, un’esperienza universitaria fondamentale per porre le basi per quello che sarebbe venuto poi…

Curiosità sul nome: i suoi creatori volevano trovare un nome che potesse racchiudere la caratteristica principale del neonato motore di ricerca, ovvero la capacità di organizzare una mole di informazioni praticamente infinita. Proprio per questo presero in prestito il neologismo coniato dal matematico Edward Kasner nel 1938, “Googol“, che a sua volta lo aveva ideato per indicare il numero 1 seguito da cento 0. Quando fu scoperto l’errore di battitura era troppo tardi, perché nel frattempo, il 15 Settembre del 1997, era già stato registrato il dominio.
